Ningura Napurrula (1938-2013) was a major Aboriginal artist, originating from the Gibson Desert. Settling in Papunya in 1963, she began painting in the 90s, inspired by her husband, Yala Yala Gibbs Tjungurrayi, and the 'Tingari' style. Her works transcribe Pintupi traditions and sacred women's narratives, contributing to the recognition of Aboriginal art. Winner of the Alice Prize in 2002, she made history by decorating the Musée du Quai Branly. Her distinctive style relies on white lattice patterns on a black or red background, creating a hypnotic depth. Exhibited in Australia, Europe, the United States, and Asia, Ningura Napurrula leaves a powerful artistic legacy, bridging memory and modernity.
