This powerful canvas by Barney explores the ancestral Tingari myths, a central theme in his work, with motifs inspired by the landscapes and narratives of the bush. His distinctive style, evolving from classical pointillism to a bold linear approach, gives his compositions a structural depth found in masters like Ronnie Tjampitjinpa and George Tjungurrayi. The painting depicts motifs associated with the Dreamtime of the Kattaru and Naaru sites, his father's Country, where the Tingari Ancestors, according to narratives, shaped the sand dunes – Thali – which directly inspire Barney's art.

Barney Campbell Tjakamarra (1928-2006) was an Australian Aboriginal artist of the Pintupi linguistic group. Born in the desert near Warburton, he was raised in Papunya before returning to his ancestral lands around the Macdonald Ranges, a region rich in sacred sites. A respected painter, he illustrated the narratives of the Tingari cycle, fundamental to Pintupi culture. His style, initially focused on dotted circles and ceremonial motifs, evolved towards a more linear approach, influenced by Ronnie Tjampitjinpa. He frequently worked with Willy Tjungurrayi in Kintore. His work, marked by simplicity and elegance, conveys a deep respect for traditions and cultural transmission.
