Kudditji Kngwarreye (circa 1928-2017) is a major figure in contemporary Aboriginal painting. Originally from Utopia, Australia, he grew up in the bush before becoming a stockman and then a gold miner. Initiated into the traditions of his people, he is a custodian of several "dreams" and a guardian of sacred sites. From 1986, he asserted himself with a bold style, characterized by large expanses of color evoking desert landscapes viewed from above. Inspired by his sister Emily Kame Kngwarreye, he abandoned pointillist painting to explore a more instinctive and immersive approach. His canvases, collectively titled My Country, transcribe the variations of light and seasons through vibrant nuances, reminiscent of Rothko's universe. Initially misunderstood, Kudditji Kngwarreye is now recognized as one of the most innovative Aboriginal artists. His works are featured in major international collections.
